Turpan, an ancient oasis along the Silk Road, is a popular destination in Xinjiang rich in history and culture. On this 2-day Xinjiang tour of Turpan from Urumqi, you’ll explore the ingenious Karez Well system, the Jiaohe Ruins – one of the world’s best-preserved earth constructions, and the Sugong Pagoda.

On Day 2, go to experience the extreme temperatures of the Flaming Hill before visiting the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves. Here you can admire many vibrant murals.

Day-to-day Itinerary

Day 1 Turpan Tour from Urumqi
Walk into an Old & Well-preserved Earth Construction

In the morning, your Urumqi tour guide will meet you at your hotel lobby and then transfer you to Turpan for 3 hours. Upon arrival, start the Turpan tour with a visit to Karez Well – an amazing underground irrigation system that made Turpan a rich oasis.

Next, go to visit the Jiaohe Ruins, one of the most important towns along the ancient Silk Road and the largest, oldest and best-preserved earth construction in the world. Then, transfer to admire Sugong Pagoda, the largest existing ancient Islamic pagoda in Xinjiang. After the visit, drive you to the hotel in Turpan.

Day 2 Turpan to Urumqi Tour, Departure
Enjoy the Colorful Murals of Buddha Caves

After breakfast, continue your Turpan trip to the hottest place along the Silk Road in China – Flaming Hill, famous for its unique fiery red mountain body. The mountain is composed of reddish red sand and gravel, and under the sunlight, the hot air flows vigorously, like flames burning. The highest temperature in summer can reach over 49 ℃ (120 ℉), and the surface temperature can even exceed 70 ℃ (158 ℉). ‌

Then, you will drive to visit the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves, one of the famous Buddhist Caves in Xinjiang. Tourists will see colorful murals in some caves. After all visits, drive you back to your Urumqi hotel.
