Lake Karakul in Tajikistan is a crater lake formed by a meteorite impact on Earth about 2.5 million years ago. You need to drive approximately 200 kilometers along National Highway 314 (the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway) from Kashgar. The journey takes about 4 hours. Along the way, you can enjoy beautiful scenery such as Baitashan Lake and Mount Muztagh Ata. If you charter a car, the cost is around 800-1100 yuan per day.
Taking a Bus: There is a daily bus departing from Kashgar to Tashkurgan County at 10 a.m., which you can catch at the Kashgar bus station. You can get off at Karakul Lake and continue to Tashkurgan County. However, the bus stops multiple times along the way, and the return schedule is not very stable.
