Dunhuang city is served by Dunhuang Mogao International Airport, which is about 12.7 km from the city center. Currently, the airport offers limited direct flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Chengdu, etc. Most flights will transfer or stopover at airports in Lanzhou or Xining.
There are 3 pairs of high-speed trains between Lanzhou and Dunhuang, and 1 pair between Xian and Dunhuang each day. From many other cities, getting to Dunhuang by train will be time-consuming. For example, regular trains from Beijing and Shanghai will take over one day.

How to Travel around Dunhuang
Buses and taxis are the main ways to travel around Dunhuang. Shuttle buses, which take about 40 minutes and cost about CNY 5, travel directly to the city center from the airport and high-speed rail station. Taxis from either the train station or airport to the city center cost about CNY 30. The Mogao Cave is about 3 km from Dunhuang Train Station.
From the city center, Bus No. 3 goes directly to Mingsha Mountain, with a fare of CNY 2, and a taxi ride costs only a few dozen RMB.
