9 Days Silk Road Tour from Tianshui to Dunhuang
Maijishan Grottoes

Day 1 Tianshui Arrival (No Meals)

Our driver and guide will wait for you at the train exit by holding a welcome sign with your name on it. Then you will be driven to the hotel to check in. Rest for some time and we will start the Silk Road Tour with Maijishan Grottoes. The exist caves were excavated from the Later Qin Dynasty(384-417) to the Qing Dynasty(1616-1912). Among all Buddhist Caves in China, Maijishan Grottoes boasts most attractive natural view. Nest we will head for Fuxi Temple. The temple is said to be built in memory of the Emperor Fuxi, one of the three mythic emperors in China. Accommodation: Tianshui


Day 2 Tianshui to Lanzhou by Car (Breakfast+Lunch+Dinner)
After breakfast, you will drive about 5 hours from Tianshui to Lanzhou. Once arrival, escort to hotel and have lunch. After hotel breakfast pick up from hotel and drive for about 5 hours we will arrive in Lanzhou City. Arriving in Lanzhou we will firstly visit the Yellow River Bridge. The bridge consists of highway bridge, railway bridge and the. railway and highway combined bridge. Then continue to visit Mother Sculpture of Yellow River which is located at the south bank of Yellow River. Then go to visit Water Wheel Garden. The most remarkable thing in this garden is the waterwheel, an irrigation tool invented in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Back to hotel. Accommodation: Lanzhou



Gansu Provincial Museum

Day 3 Lanzhou to Zhangye by High Speed Train (Breakfast)

After hotel breakfast, take your private van to White Pagoda Hill. Standing on the mountain top one will have an overlook of Lanzhou City.cable car on White Pagoda Hill is available and optional. Going downhill we will visit the Gansu Provincial Museum to have comprehensive knowledge of Gansu Province and its past story as one part of ancient Silk Road route. Two must see halls of the museum are Buddhist Culture Hall and the Pottery Culture Hall. Later take the high speed train to Zhanghye. Upon arrival in Zhangye, met by local guide and driver and transfer to hotel to check in. Accommodation: Zhangye.


Day 4 Zhangye (Breakfast)

After breakfast we will head for the Giant Buddha which is considered the largest architectural relics in Gansu Province. The Buddha Figure is so large that only the ear could keep 4 adults at one time. And the highlight of the temple is a Sleeping Buddha. In the afternoon we will drive about one hour and arrive at Danxia Mountain where you will see a truly picturesque world makes up of red, white, yellow and other color’s rock. Finishing the tour in Danxia Mountain we will drive back to hotel. Accommodation: Zhangye.


Jiayu Guan Watch Tower

Day 5 Zhangye to Jiayuguan by Car (Breakfast)
In the morning we will check out Zhangye hotel and drive for about 2.5 hours to arrive at Jiayuguan. In Jiayuguan City we will firstly visit Jiayuguan Pass, the very west starting point of the Chinese Great Wall. Here you will see the Great Wall on Cliff. Next move to the Great Wall Museum where you will get some comprehensive knowledge of Great Wall as a military defensive system in ancient China. Back to hotel and enjoy your free time. Accommodation: Jiayuguan


Day 6 Jiayuguan to Dunhuang by Car (Breakfast)

In the early morning pick up from hotel and transfer to Dunhuang. On the way we will stop to visit Yulin Grottoes, the sister-caves of Mogao Grottoes. From the existed murals we could find Buddhist and Bodhisattva figures of various sizes and paintings telling Buddhist stories. The must visit cave is the Cave No 25 which was made in Golden Tang Dynasty. Then continue driving to Dunhuang City and check in hotel. Accommodation: Dunhuang


Mogao Grottoes

Day 7 Dunhuang (Breakfast)
In the morning pick up by driver and guide and transfer directly to Mogao Caves, one of the four most famous caves in China and the real must see attraction along ancient Silk Road. In the afternoon, continue to visit the Echoing-Sand Mountain. When you slide down the slope, you can hear the roaring echo of sands, hence the name. A short Camel Ride will leave you a unforgettable memory. Riding along the mountain to reach the Crescent Lake, your eyes will be feasted on the crescent-shaped spring surrounded by the endless Gobi desert. After the happy time in Crescent Lake we will back to hotel in Dunhuang. Accommodation: Dunhuang


Day 8 Dunhuang (Breakfast)

Yadan Geological Park

Today’s first stop is Yadan National Geological Park to see magical landscape created by thousands of years eolian erosion. In Yadan Geological Park we will see the unique dessert view and various shaped landscape, and also you will hear the interesting and attractive ancient local folktale. Then we will drive to visit Yumenguan Pass and Han Dynasty Great Wall. Yumenguan Pass was set in the West Han Dynasty when building Great Wall. The pass was named so because this pass used to be the only pass to transfer Jade produced in turkestan to China (Jade is called YU in Chinese, and Yumen means Gate of Jade). The existed Han Dynasty Great Wall is much less grand than the Ming Dynasty Great Wall in Beijing. Great Wall here is built mainly with rammed earth and has been badly effected by eolian erosion. But we could still imagine the original look of that Great Wall. Back to hotel in Dunhuang. If have interest in local food and market, taking a walk at Shazhou Night Market on your own is an ideal way to spend night time. Accommodation: Dunhuang


Day 9 Dunhuang Departure (Breakfast)

According to the flight/train time, your guide will pick you up from your hotel and transfer to airport or train station to depart Dunhuang.
