18 Days China Silk Road and Tibet Tour

Day 1 Urumqi Arrival(No Meals)

Our driver and guide will wait for you at the airport terminal exit by holding a welcome sign with your name on it. Then you will be driven to the hotel and have a good rest. The rest of the day is free at your disposal. Accommodation: Urumqi

Jiaohe Ancient City

Day 2 Urumqi to Turpan by Car (Breakfast+ Lunch)
Pick up from hotel and transfer to Turpan to check in at local hotel. After short rest, we will start to visit Jiaohe Ruins, one of the most important towns along the ancient Silk Road and the largest, oldest and best-preserved earth construction in the world. Then go to visit Sugong Pagoda, the largest existed ancient Islamic pagoda in Xinjiang. Next stop will be Bizaklik Thousand Buddha Caves, one of the famous Buddhist Caves in Xinjiang. And tourists will see colorful murals in some caves. The last stop will be the hottest place along Silk Road in China– the Flaming Hill. The temperature in summer could reach 47.8 ℃. Back to your hotel. Accommodation: Turpan

Day 3 Turpan to Dunhuang by High Speed Train(Breakfast+ Lunch)
Today we will visit the last attraction in Turpan —the Karez Well — an amazing underground irrigation system which made Turpan a rich oasis. Afterwards escorted to train station to catch the high speed train to Dunhuang. Upon arrival in Dunhuang, our local driver and guide will meet you at train station and transfer to hotel. Accommodation: Dunhuang

Mogao Grottoes

Day 4 Dunhuang (Breakfast+ Lunch)
In the morning, pick up from hotel and head for Mogao Caves, one of the four most famous caves in China. Best Buddhist sculptures of ancient China can only be found in Mogao Caves. Except for the sculptures, mural and Buddhist paintings are also highlights of the caves. Another stop will be Dunhuang Museum where the exhibited historical relics will tell tourists more details things about ancient Silk Road. Accommodation: Dunhuang

Day 5 Dunhuang to Xian by Flight (Breakfast+ Lunch)
In the morning, we will visit one of the most famous attractions along the Silk Road- the Echoing-Sand Mountain. When you slide down the slope, you can hear the roaring echo of sands, hence the name. Walking along the mountain to reach the Crescent Lake, your eyes will be feasted on the crescent-shaped spring surrounded by the endless Gobi desert. Then transfer to airport to catch the flight to Xian. Our driver and guide in Xian will meet you upon your arrival and escort you to the hotel in downtown. Accommodation: Xian

Terracotta warriors and Horses

Day 6 Xian (Breakfast+ Lunch)
In the morning, you will visit the world’s eighth wonder, the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum. In the afternoon, we will drive back to down town Xian to visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda which was built 1,300 years ago in the Tang Dynasty to keep the Buddhist Sutra brought back to China from ancient India by Master Xuanzang. Concludes today’s tour with ancient City Wall, the largest and best preserved city wall in China. It stretches about 14km long and divides Xian into Inner City and Outer City. Ride in City Wall is available and optional. Accommodation: Xian

Day 7 Xian to Lhasa by Flight (Breakfast)
Pick up from hotel according to flight time and transfer to airport to catch flight to Lhasa. Upon arrival in Lhasa, our local guide will meet you at terminal exit by holding a board with your name and then transfer to hotel. The rest day is free for you to accommodate natural environment of Tibet. Accommodation: Lhasa

Sera Monastery

Day 8 Lhasa (Breakfast+ Lunch)
Today we will firstly pay a visit to Tibet Museum built in typical Tibetan architectural style. The collections in the museum vividly explain the attractive culture and history of Tibet. In the afternoon, move to Sera Monastery, one of the three most influential Tibetan Buddhist temples in Tibet. The monastery functions as Buddhist culture spreading base for hundreds of years hence many little temples for monks accommodation and learning were built around the monastery. Afterwards continue to visit Norbulingka Park which was originally built in the Qing Dynasty as summer resort for Dalai Lamas. Back to hotel. Accommodation: Lhasa

Day 9 Lhasa (Breakfast+ Lunch)
In the morning we will visit the Potala Palace, the most notable attraction in Tibet. The palace was originally built in the Tang Dynasty when the master of Tibet married daughter of the Emperor Taizong. It is said there are totally 999 rooms in the palace and from the 17th century on, Potala Palace was used as winter palace for Tibetan master. After lunch, we will move to visit Jokhang Temple, the most sacred Tibetan Buddhist temple in Buddhist followers’ heart. The temple was built in the golden period of local Tubo Kingdom and is also the earliest earth-and- wood structure building in Tibet. Then take a walk along the Barkhor Street where lots of local handicrafts and little goods full of Tibetan taste waiting for exploring. Back to hotel. Accommodation: Lhasa

Yamdrok Yumtso Lake

Day10 Lhasa to Gyangtse by Car (Breakfast+ Lunch)
After hotel breakfast, pick up from hotel by local driver and guide and drive to Gyangtse County. On the way we will stop at Yamdrok Yumtso Lake which means Lake of Swan in Tibetan language. The lake is one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet. Looking from sky the lake just like a coral branch. It is regarded as the most beautiful lake in southern Tibet. Next we will visit the Pelkhor Monastery. Which has a history of about 600 years. The must see of the monastery is the nine-storey Pelkhor Pagoda. The last stop will be Gyangtse Old Street to see authentic Tibet where one will meet elder local people dressed in traditional costume and Tibetan carriage. Accommodation: Gyangtse

Day11 Gyangtse to Shigatse by Car/Van (Breakfast+ Lunch)
Today in the morning check out hotel in Gyangtse and drive to Shigatse. In Shigatse we will visit two spots: Tashilunpo Monastery and New Palace of Panchen. Tashilunpo Monastery is the largest temple in Shigatse Area. The New Palace of Panchen is a summer palace built by the 10th Panchen in 1954. It is a splendid and quiet place for escaping from summer heat. Accommodation: Shigatse

Potala Palace

Day12 Shigatse to Dingri by Car (Breakfast+ Lunch)
Today we will continue heading towards southwest to Dingri. On the way we will pay a short visit to Sakya Monastery. Sakya Monastery is the major temple of Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism. Then driving through Lhatse County we will arrive at Dingri and check in local hotel. Accommodation: Dingri

Day13 Everest Base Camp (Breakfast+ Lunch)
Today we will take one whole day to visit Everest Base Camp. If you choose to visit Tibet between April and June, you will see the most clear and beautiful Mt Everest of the year. We will take a carriage to get to foot of the Mt Everest and explore the Everest Base Camp. And here we will have chance to see the Rongbuk Monastery, the temple of highest altitude in the world. Then back to hotel in Dingri. Accommodation: Dingri

Day14 Dingri to Zhangmu by Car (Breakfast+ Lunch)
After hotel breakfast, we will check out Dingri hotel and drive for about 5 hours to Zhangmu. Arriving in Zhangmu you will be left free to have a good rest or enjoy the charming scenery on your own. Accommodation: Zhangmu

Day15 Zhangmu to Katmandu by Car (Breakfast+ Lunch)
Today we will end the Chinese part of Silk Road tour and drive along the Sino-Nepalese Highway we will arrive at Katmandu. Our guide in Kodari, Nepal will meet you and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day is free at your disposal. Accommodation: Katmandu

Swayambhunath Temple

Day16 Katmandu (Breakfast+ Lunch)
Pick up from hotel in the morning and had for Pashupatinath Temple, one of the most important Hindu temples. And the temple is cremating spot for Sikhs. if there happen to is a burning ceremony held, tourists could see and even take some pictures for memory. Next move to Bhaktapur Burbar Square where Buddhist temples stand row upon row and the imperial palace of Malla Dynasty which lasted 500 years in Nepal’s history. Then we will visit the oldest Buddhist city in Nepal, Patan, with its old name as Lalitpur which means “City of art and beauty”. On the Burbar Square people will see various ancient Nepalese buildings, temples, and pagodas. Last top will be Golden Temple. The most distinctive thing of the temple is that all architecture’s surface in the temple were copper-plated. Back to hotel. Accommodation: Katmandu

Bhaktapur Burbar Square

Day17 Katmandu (Breakfast+ Lunch)
Today we will cover three attractions. First one will be Katmandu Burbar Square, where you will see the most representative Nepalese architecture and over 50 temples and palaces. Afterward we will proceed to Swayambhunath Temple. The temple stands on the a mountain top from where tourists could have a bird’s eye of the landscape at mountain foot. Walking around the temple tourists will meet groups of monkeys there and here so the temple is also called Monkey Temple. At last we will visit Bouddhanath Stupa, the world’s largest Buddhist Stupa. After the tour back to hotel. Accommodation: Katmandu

Day18 Katmandu Departure(Breakfast)
According to the flight time, your guide will pick you up from your hotel and transfer to airport for your homeward flight. Hope the 18 days Silk Road tour leaves you an impressive and pleasant memory.
