Day 1 Xining Arrival(No Meals)
Our driver and guide will wait for you at the airport exit or train station by holding a welcome sign with your name on it. Then you will be driven to the hotel to check in. In the afternoon, we will drive to visit Taer Monastery, one of the famous Tibetan Buddhist temples in Qinghai Province. If you happen to travel to the temple in first month, fourth month, six month or ninth month of Chinese calendar, you will have chance to experience the royal temple fair in the temple. Finally transfer back to hotel in Xining. Accommodation: Xining
Day 2 Xining (Breakfast)
In the morning pick up from hotel and drive about 2.5 hours to visit Qinhai Lake, the largest inland salt water lake in China. Tourist will meet the most beautiful Qinghai Lake in July and August when rape flower in their full bloom. Qinghai Lake is one of the best residential place for various kinds of birds. Each summer thousands of birds fly to Qinghai Lake to escape from hot summer and the ground of grove will be covered with birds’ stool. We will arrange a lake cruise for you to visit Bird Island in the lake. After sightseeing in Qinghai Lake, we will drive back to hotel in downtown Xining. Accommodation: Xining
Day 3 Xining to Xiahe by Car (Breakfast)
In the morning pick up from hotel and transfer to Xiahe. On the way we will pass by Tongren County and in that county we will visit Rongwo Monastery. Term “Rongwo” is a Tibetan expression which means “agricultural area”. That temple belongs to Glu School of Tibetan Buddhism. And in history, many famous Buddhist master, scholars lived and studied Buddhism in the temple. Finishing visit in Rongwo Temple we will continue driving to Xiahe. Arriving in Xiahe we will check in local hotel. Accommodation: Xiahe
Day 4 Xiahe (Breakfast)
In the morning we will first go to visit the Labrang Monastery, the largest Buddhist Institute of Tibetan Buddhism. Where tourists will also appreciate thousands of statues of Buddha made of various materials. Tourists may have the chance to watch the morning devotion here. In the afternoon we will travel to Sangke Prairieto witness the typical plateau grassland. After that you will pay a visit to a local Tibetan family to learn about the nomadic life of local people. Back to hotel in Xiahe. Accommodation: Xiahe
Day 5 Xiahe to Lanzhou by Car (Breakfast)
Today we will have a whole day tour to Binglingsi Grottoes by boat to visit the completely preserved grottoes. There are776 Buddha statues, over 1,076 square yards murals and 6 stones sculptures from 1,600 years ago waiting for your exploring. We will first drive to Liujiaxia Dam from where to aboard the boat and explore Binglingsi Temple. After the visit in Binglingsi Temple we will drive to Lanzhou and check in at hotel. Accommodation: Lanzhou
Day 6 Lanzhou to Zhangye by Car (Breakfast)
After hotel breakfast we will drive to visit the White Pagoda Hill. The hill is named after the white pagoda standing on it and tourist could have an over view of landscape of Lanzhou City. If you do not like too much walking, taking cable car go up and down the hill is available and optional. Going downhill we will visit Gansu Provincial Museum. About 350,000 pieces of ancient cultural relics, contemporary and modern cultural relics, as well as ethnic cultural relics will enable tourists know this important city on the Silk Road from various aspects. After that drive for about 5 hours we will arrive at Zhangye City and check in at local hotel. Accommodation: Zhangye
Day 7 Zhangye (Breakfast)
After breakfast, we will first pay a visit to the Danxia Mountain, where you will see a truly picturesque world make up of red, yellow and white rocks. Then move to the Giant Buddha Temple which houses the largest architectural relics in Gansu Province —- an giant wooden lying Buddha figure. Only the Buddha’s ear could keep four adults at the same time. And local people believe touching certain part of the Buddha’s body could cure pain in corresponding part of his body. Then we will back to hotel in Zhangye. Accommodation: Zhangye
Day 8 Zhangye to Jiayuguan by Car (Breakfast)
After hotel breakfast we will check out hotel in Zhangye and drive for about 2.5 hours to arrive at Jiayuguan City. Arriving in Jiayuguan we will drive to visit Jiayuguan Pass, the very west starting point of the Chinese Great Wall. Next move to the Great Wall Museum where you will get some comprehensive knowledge of Great Wall as a military defensive system in ancient China.
If we have enough time, upon requirement, we will drive 18km more to see Overhanging Great Wall. The entrance fee will be left on your own. Then back to hotel. Accommodation: Jiayuguan
Day 9 Jiayuguan to Dunhuang by Car (Breakfast)
In the morning pick up from hotel and drive for about 5 hours to arrive at Dunhuang. When arriving in Duynhuang in afternoon we will firstly pay a visit toEchoing-Sand Mountain. When you slide down the slope, you can hear the roaring echo of sands, hence the name. A short Camel Ride (optional) will leave you a unforgettable memory. Riding along the mountain to reach theCrescent Lake, your eyes will be feasted on the crescent-shaped spring surrounded by the endless Gobi desert. After that back to downtown Dunhuang. If you have interest, walking in Shazhou Night Market you will meet many local snacks and other little handcrafts. Accommodation: Dunhuang
Day 10 Dunhuang Departure (Breakfast)
Today we will firstly visit the most notable attraction in Dunhuang, the Mogao Caves. one of the four most famous caves in China. The grottoes, also know as Caves of the Thousand Buddha, preserve nearly a thousand years of Buddhist cave temple architecture, clay sculpture, mural paintings, and manuscripts, dating from the 5th to the 14th centuries. And in Tourist Reception Center, which functions as Digital Exhibition Center now, tourists will see two 20-minute long digital movies to have a overall understand of Silk Road Tour. In the afternoon we will visit Dunhuang Museum to have some detailed and overall information of Dunhuang. And you will have chance to see large quantities of relics unearthed in local area. At last be escorted to airport or train station to depart Dunhuang. 10 days Silk Road plus Xining Tour ends here.
