Zhangye cities locating at the northwest of Gansu Province use to be one of the important stops along the ancient Silk Road and also the main arteries of Euro-Asia Continental Bridge. The long history, splendid culture, beautiful natural scenery, and unique human landscape make Zhangye the national historical cultural city. Zhangye borders wuwei and Jinchang in the east, Jiuquan and Jiayuguan in the west, and in the south lies Qinghai Province and in the north neighbors Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The climate of Zhangye belongs to continental climate. Generally speaking the city is dry and short of rain through out the year. The annual average temperature of the city is about 6 ℃. January is the coldest time and July is the hottest time. The best time to visit Zhangye is from June to September.
