Xining Travel Guide

Xining is the capital city of Qinghai Province which was also called Xipingjun County and Qingtang City in ancient China. The city is the largest city in Qinghai and also the largest city on Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. As capital city of Qinghai Province, the city is the economic, political culture, educational, scientific, transportation and communication center of Qinghai.

Lying in the est part of Qinghai province, Xining is the eastern window of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and the must-pass place of ancient Silk Road route.

The altitude of Xining is 2261 meters and the annual precipitation is 380mm. The annual average temperature is 7.6 ℃ with the highest temperature as 34.6 ℃ and the lowest temperature as -21℃. So the city is quite cold in winter and not livable. But the high altitude make Xining an ideal summer resort because the average temperature in summer is 17-19℃. Hence the city is renowned as Summer Resort Capital.
